I have worked at my company since 2021, and I have never changed jobs. Last year, a recruiter offered me a position at a bigger firm, and I almost took it. In the end, I decided to stay put, and I still think it was the right call.
A few years ago, workers had the upper hand. Switching jobs often meant a big pay bump. Today, hiring is slow, and the extra money for new hires is small across the board. If I quit now, I could spend months looking for work, and my savings would lose ground to inflation.
But staying put does not mean I am just sitting tight. Since last spring, I have been taking an online course in data analysis. If a better chance comes, I will be ready. For now, I want to grow where I am.
